Mile 1 market on the popular Ikwerre Road Port Harcourt when a trigger happy
Police man shot a crippled beggar and two other female passers-by.
Eye witness said that trouble started when five Policemen believed to be members of the State Anti Robbery Squad were on a routine patrol along Ikwerre road. They accosted a young man on Military camouflage T.Shirt and ordered him to identify himself.

“The Policemen were heading towards the Mile one market when they saw a young man on Military Camouflage T Shirt. They stopped him and ordered him to identify himself. The young man complied and brought out his identity card and told the Policemen that he is a Military man. The Policemen were not satisfied and at that point they started raining slaps on him.
“As this scuffle was going on, it attracted many passers-by and traders from Mile 1 Market. Suddenly a Police man pulled his gun and started shooting sporadically into the air and stray bullets hit a crippled beggar who was sitting by the road side and two other females who were passing by,” said the eyewitness.
Continuing, he also said that the stray bullet hit the two females on the cheek and left arm respectively.
Immediately the bullets hit the victims, the Policemen unhooked the young man who was accosted for wearing camouflage T-Shirt from handcuff and took to their heels leaving the beggar and the women to writhe in pains and in the pool of their own blood.
The incident caused commotion along Ikwerre road as passers by scampered in different directions for their own safety.
When contacted the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer Ahmed Muhammad said he would make inquiry to find out the unit the Policemen came from and till the time of this report, he did not get back on the inquiry.
