A Nigerian man has been arrested by EFCC for defrauding a 75-year-old Dutch woman.
31-year-old Adio Opeyemi Michael is alleged to have obtained N42,056,984 (€200,000) from one Jeanet De Jonge under false pretences.
News of his arrest was disclosed by the EFCC via a press statement.
It read: Adio allegedly met the victim on the ‘Net log’ dating site and pretended to be a 41-year-old American citizen, working as a chef in a Nigerian restaurant and needs a wife. The profile attracted Jeanet and, in no time, began sending him money through Western Union and Money Gram. “She was sending me money monthly, ranging from $800 to $900 from June 2012, through Western Union Money transfer and Money Gram to the extent that Western Union blocked her from sending money to me in Nigeria. So she requested that I should go to London to enable her send me money there. I contacted a friend of mine in London called Osas Odiah, so that he can receive the money and send to me here in Nigeria. She first sent €2000 to my friend’s account in London, and later to my Keystone bank account, which was actually a Forex Trade account. We started using this account when we discovered that my friend was not remitting all the money sent by Jeanet to me,” the suspect revealed. Investigations further revealed that the suspect collected the various sums under the pretext that he was going to use the money to perfect his travel plans and obtain the required documents that would enable him travel to Holland to join or visit Jeanet. But his inability or refusal to honour the invitation from Jeanet prompted the petition to EFCC. The suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded. The statement was released on Thursday, September 4, 2014 by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren.

Court nullifies collection of toll on Lekki-Ikoyi bridge
According to a report by Sahara Reporters, a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, today nullified the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.
Ruling on the suit, which was filed by human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, presiding judge, Justice Saidu, J. held that the power of control over all navigable waterways in Nigeria resides in the Federal Government, and not any state government.
He held that from all the documents made available to the court, the only justification for the toll fee on the bridge by Lagos State is the private partnership law.
However, he noted that the law could not apply to the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge since it was built with the money of the Lagos State Government, without the involvement of any private partnership.
“Thus, since there is no law supporting the toll fee, it is illegal and should be stopped forthwith”, Justice Saidu said.

I started nursing the ambition of constructing such a building that would attract the admiration of all, but I guess that changed.

Apparently preparing the ground for eventual declaration of his interest in the 2015 election, President Goodluck Jonathan may shock the nation with the sacking of another round of ministers in the coming weeks.
It has been learnt by Vanguard from a reliable presidential source that Jonathan had already made up his mind to sack more ministers, who were not really adding value to the Transformation Agenda of the administration.
Moreover, the President is said to
have decided to remove all controversial ministers from his cabinet in order to
win the confidence of voters ahead of the upcoming elections.

Movie diva, Genevieve Nnaji and football star Mikel Obi have been spotted together, as they were heading inside a private jet.
The two celebrities were pictured February 18, 2014 and it is believed that the pictures were taken in South Africa.
It is not clear at the moment what they are up to in the former apartheid country, but for now, we will keep watching as events unfold.
It is obviously not true as Genny is dating D’banj and Mikel has a Russian girlfriend. But it is very obvious the Nollywood superstar and Chelsea FC midfielder are filming an ad in South Africa today.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
Day Two of the investigative hearing
of the Senate Committee on Finance into the alleged missing $20 billion oil
money has concluded in Abuja, with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, insisting the money is missing according to a live
blogging of the hearing by Premium Times of Nigeria.

there is an outstanding $20 billion between what NNPC oil shipments and what it

opinions the CBN has already received.

“The publication which has been shared on other online news platforms and social media has no shred of truth. It is malicious, offensive and intended to disparage our client and cause him embarrassment and public condemnation.”

Redeemed Church to build a university, sports complex, golf course in Texas
Here's an article I found on BBC written by one of their reporters Jason Margolis. See below...
For centuries, European and American missionaries have gone to Africa to spread the word of Christ. That trend is now working in reverse, with a Nigerian minister in Texas who plans to build churches as numerous as Starbucks coffee shops.
Drive an hour north-east of Dallas, and you will find yourself staring off into a barren, flat horizon. One out-of-place building rises above the landscape: a 10,000-seat auditorium.
It is the centrepiece for the Redeemed Christian Church of God in North America. It is one of Africa's largest and most influential Christian movements, claiming more than five million followers worldwide, mostly in Nigeria.
Pastor James Fadele, who runs the Church in North America, said God told the Church's leader Enoch Adeboye that its North American headquarters would be founded near Dallas - but not where, and not when.

NDLEA vows to track down Indian hemp farmers, peddlers in Ekiti
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ekiti
said it would arrest and present those planting and selling Indian hemp
in the state for prosecution.
Peter Njoku, the Principal Officer in charge of Drug Demand Reduction Unit, NDLEA, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the agency had mapped out plans to ensure that the state capital and its environment are free from Indian hemp peddlers.
Njoku said the decision of the agency to wage war against Indian hemp sellers was as a result of the brain damage being caused to many youths in the society.
He said that in 2013, the agency conducted several workshops and seminars for 60 secondary schools, both public and private, as well as tertiary institutions to sensitise them against taking the Indian hemp.
According to him, residents of Ekiti have also been sensitised to report any suspicious farmland or warehouse where Indian hemp are being stored. Njoku, however, advised the youth who were in the business of cultivating and selling Indian hemp with other hard drugs to quit or face the wrath of the law. He said that there would not be any other opportunity for them, once they are caught by security agents.

How I slept under the bridge & didn’t eat for days – Ramsey Nouah
“Those were the times when things
got really bad for my mother and I and we had nothing. It was so bad that we
didn’t have a home or shelter to live in. We had to stay in a store, a small
store that could take only one mat. My mother and I squeezed ourselves in that
mat. We didn’t even have a cup to drink water not to talk of a stove to cook.
And my mother had to borrow, beg and stuff like that. These were moments when I
was young I didn’t realize the gravity of poverty we were in, I couldn’t tell.
But it was a good orientation for me. It was moments that I thank God for
making me past through, because that has sustained and helped me even as an
actor. The ability to deliver all the roles they give me because I have tasted
both sides of the coin.” Ramsey said.

Expect A ‘Boom And Bust’ Electricity Cycle From 2014, says Bagnall
‘The Executive Director of the Operator of the Nigerian Electricity
Market (ONEM) Mr Jang Bagnall, has stated that the privatized power
generation sector will become a high supply capacity during the
Transition Electricity Market (TEM) from 2014.
Bagnall who revealed this at his office in the PHCN Corporate Headquarters, Abuja, as he spoke to Daily Trust on his expectations in the electricity market for 2014, stated that a ‘Boom and Bust’ cycle which is being experienced in the North American market is expected to be accomplished in nigeria.
He said: “There is intense competition among the generators in the North American market resulting in that cycle. They would build many generations plants to meet demand and it becomes in excess for a while.”
Bagnall stated that although the boom will cause a bust in the transmission section as it lacks adequate capacity to evacuate the additional generation, it will lead to more investments in the network, adding that the Least Cost Dispatch (LCD) rate for the Distribution Companies will change to ensure reduction of electricity bills.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, has beckoned on the Transmission Company of nigeria (TCN) to facilitate the unbundling exercise of the System Operator (SO) and the MO from the Transmission Service Provider (TSP).
Amadi noted that such separation will create operational independence and fairness in the electricity market, saying: “They need to be fully separated and this has become more important now that government is getting involved in some fiscal policies.”

Egypt declares Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group
CAIRO (AFP) – Egypt’s
military-installed rulers declared the muslim brotherhood of ousted president Mohamed Morsi a
“terrorist” organisation Wednesday, blaming it for a deadly police headquarters
bombing already claimed by an Al-Qaeda-inspired group.
The decision is likely to accelerate
a crackdown on the movement that has killed more than 1,000 people, mostly
Islamists, in street clashes and seen thousands imprisoned since Morsi’s
overthrow by the military in July.
It lumps together Al-Qaeda-inspired
militants who have killed scores of policemen and soldiers with the more
moderate Brotherhood movement, although authorities have provided no proof the
groups are related.
The announcement comes a day after a
suicide car bombing of a police station killed 15 people, in an attack
condemned by the Brotherhood and claimed by an Al-Qaeda-inspired group
based in the restive Sinai Peninsula.
