NDLEA vows to track down Indian hemp farmers, peddlers in Ekiti

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ekiti said it would arrest and present those planting and selling Indian hemp in the state for prosecution.

Peter Njoku, the Principal Officer in charge of Drug Demand Reduction Unit, NDLEA, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the agency had mapped out plans to ensure that the state capital and its environment are free from Indian hemp peddlers.

Njoku said the decision of the agency to wage war against Indian hemp sellers was as a result of the brain damage being caused to many youths in the society.

He said that in 2013, the agency conducted several workshops and seminars for 60 secondary schools, both public and private, as well as tertiary institutions to sensitise them against taking the Indian hemp.

According to him, residents of Ekiti have also been sensitised to report any suspicious farmland or warehouse where Indian hemp are being stored. Njoku, however, advised the youth who were in the business of cultivating and selling Indian hemp with other hard drugs to quit or face the wrath of the law. He said that there would not be any other opportunity for them, once they are caught by security agents.
